Wade Green is an extremely talented, serious and ambitious dancer of 16 who is a citizen of Richmond, Virginia. With the help of Richmond City Council and The Gerold Gardner Foundation, Friends of City Dance provided tuition assistance for Wade's attendance at the 2008 Alvin Ailey Summer Intensive Workshop. He had a wonderful experience as one of the only 16-year olds in the Professional Division (ages 16-25).
Wade has trained under Annette Holt in the Dance Program of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities since he was a young boy. He happens to be profoundly deaf. With great determination and the aid of a cochlear implant he has overcome his disability and become an impressive young professional ballet and modern dancer.
In a 2002 Times-Dispatch feature story about him at age 10 (see below), the author states that Wade "enjoys watching Alvin Ailey, the famous dancer he wants to grow up to be like." The boy found a hero and set his sights on emulating him. His goal became and has remained to be the first deaf dancer at a major modern dance company.
